October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.
There are about 1.38 million new cases and 458 000 deaths from breast cancer each year. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries.
Organizations across the world are established in order to help more and more women by educating them about breast cancer and providing free mammograms to women in need; therefore trying to reduce breast cancer mortality worldwide.
Europa Donna – the European Breast Cancer Coalition – is an independent non-profit organisation whose members are affiliated groups from countries throughout Europe. The Coalition works to raise awareness of breast cancer and to mobilise the support of European women in pressing for improved breast cancer education, appropriate screening, optimal treatment and increased funding for research.
